“I’m extremely proud to have my name and several of my former teammates behind such a great cause,” McKinnon said. “Everyone who comes out will make a big difference in the lives of kids.” “As an athlete and former professional football player for the Chicago Bears, I value the good fortune of being part of a strong team and having the support of my team members,” McKinnon said. “The passion it took to achieve my personal and professional goals taught me that passion is key in giving us the energy that drives success. Let’s make this event a success on behalf of the children and families served by this organization. By uniting, we are making a powerful difference in the lives of children.”
As a player with the Chicago Bears from 1983-89, Dennis McKinnon was known as one of the hardest working players. After all, the undrafted wide receiver worked his way up to become one of Chicago’s most productive wide outs ever, catching a team-leading seven touchdowns during the Super Bowl Championship season.
About Share our Soles:
Share Your Soles is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation operating out of the southwest suburb of Alsip, IL. Their mission is simple: To provide gently worn shoes to those in greatest need around the world. In 1999, founder Mona Purdy traveled through Central America, and saw children painting tar on the soles of their bare feet so they could run a race during their village's festival. She happened to meet an American orthopedic surgeon who was visiting the village. He told Mona that if these children had shoes to wear, there would be a lot less need for him to regularly travel to the region to perform amputations of children's infected limbs. Volunteers in more than 30 states have organized shoe drives and special events providing us the support necessary to put shoes on the soles of children and adults in the most impoverished areas of the world. One dollar buys detergent that washes 1 load (30 pairs of shoes), Ten dollars pays for the packaging of 50 pairs of shoes. For more information: www.shareyoursoles.org .
